The Brain Injury Association of Queensland has established a range of comprehensive training and education programmes that assist with effective responses to people with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).

What training is provided?

Introduction to Acquired Brain Injury - 3 hour workshop

This is an introductory course that will provide participants with information on:

  • The physiology of the brain
  • The causes and effects of injury to the brain
  • Support strategies for people with an acquired brain injury

Providing Behaviour Support (working with Challenging Behaviour) - 3 or 6 hour workshop

This introductory course aims to educate participants in:

  • Reasons why challenging behaviour occurs
  • Identification of specific behaviours
  • Methods of data collection and reporting
  • Positive behaviour support planning

Introduction to Acquired Brain Injury and Providing Behaviour Support (working with Challenging Behaviour) - 6 hour workshop

This is a 6 hour workshop including:

  • The physiology of the brain
  • The causes and effects of injury to the brain
  • Support strategies for people with an acquired brain injury
  • Reasons why challenging behaviour occurs
  • Identification of specific behaviours
  • Methods of data collection and reporting
  • Positive behaviour support planning

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) - 3 or 6 hour workshop

An in-depth workshop that examines the history and development of Positive Behaviour Support, the stages of planning and the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support Plans, while also providing participants with an insight into the pool of resources required for Positive Behaviour Support planning.

Consequential Behaviour Management - 3 or 6 hour workshop

Designed to teach individuals the difference between punishment and consequential management. It focuses on contemporary non-aversive strategies.

Client Specific Training

Training including Behaviour Support Programs can be developed according to the specific needs of an individual and/or staff. For further information please contact the Manager of Training and Development.
