The ABI Learning Network FNQ is a networking and educational group based in Far North QLD for paid and unpaid carers for people with ABI and interested professionals, parents, partners, disability support workers, and health and community service workers. The network is supported by the Brain Injury Association of Qld (BIAQ) & HACC, and facilitated by White Crane Dreaming.

The Network was launched on the 25th of March 2009 out of the need for more support for people with an Acquired Brain Injury and their families living in Far North QLD. The Network is facilitated by a family carer/social worker and is supported by BIAQ through the provision of HACC funding.

Past Training Events:

  • Workshop “Understanding Complex and Challenging Behaviour” by BIAQ’s Behaviour Consultancy Service
  • Workshop by Franca Butera-Prinzi, social worker and family therapist with the ABI Family Support Program at Melbourne’s Bouverie Centre.

Coming events:

ABI Rehabilitation: The Rural/Remote Challenge

In Far North QLD, younger adults with Acquired Brain Injury have limited access to the kinds of expertise that is essential for their rehabilitation. The ABI Learning Network FNQ with the support of the Brain Injury Association of QLD is planning a forum in Cairns for 2010. The forum will present working models of rural and remote rehabilitation services for inspiration and discussion for the region and bring together key stakeholders concerned about the needs of people with ABI in the region. The rural and remote challenge provides the opportunity to hear presentations on various models of rehabilitation outreach services which would be of interest to anyone working in health or disability services in rural or remote regions.

The ABI Learning Network FNQ forum will be held at the Cairns Colonial Club Resort. We would like to thank the Cairns Colonial Club Resort for there support and assistance regarding the rural and remote challenge forum.
