The Brain Injury Association of Queensland operates a Behaviour Consultancy Service (BCS).  The service offers support, advice, interventions, education and mentoring to human service organisations, families and individuals that support or interact with persons who exhibit complex or challenging behaviours.

What does the Behaviour Consultancy Service do?

The Behaviour Consultancy Service operates a statewide Assessment and Training Service. 

ASSESSMENT SERVICE

For those accessing the Assessment Service, the BCS is able to conduct Behavioural Assessments (and provide reports) based on Applied Behaviour Analysis; develop and assist with the implementation of Behaviour Management Plans based on Positive Behaviour Support principles.

For those accessing the Training Service, the BCS is able to supply training on a range of behavioural topics including:
  • Introduction to Acquired Brain Injury;
  • Understanding and Managing Complex and Challenging Behaviours;
  • Supporting persons with a Memory impairment;
  • Managing Impulsivity;
  • Understanding and improving interactions & communication (Organisational focus);
  • The Effective Support Person;
  • Positive Behaviour Support;
  • Impaired insight;
  • Customised courses based on and individual’s behaviour support needs or on organisational training needs.
Courses provide information on brain physiology, dysfunction and impairment as well as practical interventions, techniques and strategies to manage behaviours.

Who pays for services provided by Behaviour Consultancy Service?

The BCS is able to provide some services at no cost to the individual.  Please ask about your eligibility for free services when you contact us.  All other services are provided on a fee for service basis, based on the BIAQ schedule of fees.  Quotes for all services will be supplied upon request.

Service provision criteria & eligibility.

The service will provide service to individuals or stakeholders if one or more of the following conditions exist:
  • The person exhibiting the challenging behaviour is at risk of self harm or is in danger of harm from the community or the environment;
  • An employee, carer or family member is at risk of harm;
  • Other clients of the service provider are at risk of harm;
  • The person who exhibits the challenging behaviour is at risk of being denied access to support;
  • The person who exhibits the challenging behaviour is at risk of unnecessary exposure to the criminal justice system;
  • The person who exhibits the challenging behaviour is at risk of becoming socially isolated.

How do you apply for this service?

Referrals are accepted via the Behaviour Consultancy Service - Referral Form V4 and send it back to us. One of these forms will eventually need to be completed to receive Behavioural Consultancy Services from the Brain Injury Association of Queensland.
