Younger Persons In Residential Aged Care (YPIRAC) Assessment & Options Planning Service PDF Print E-mail

An initiative of Disability Services Queensland and the Brain Injury Association of Queensland Inc.

Under the Commonwealth-State/Territory Disability Agreement (Bilateral Agreement) 2002-2007, the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments committed to work together to explore alternative support options for younger people (under 65 years of age) inappropriately placed in aged care facilities, and the capacity for younger people who have been inappropriately placed to move to more appropriate accommodation.
Visit the Assessment and Options Planning Service page for more comprehensive information on this service.

DSQ will focus on achieving three primary outcomes over the course of the next 5 years:

  • To assist younger people with a disability in residential aged care to move to more appropriate supported accommodation where available and desired.
  • To divert younger people with a disability who are at risk of inappropriately entering residential aged care to more appropriate accommodation, and;
  • To improve the delivery of specialist disability support services to younger people with a disability who choose to remain in residential aged care or for whom residential aged care remains the only available suitable option.

Following initial eligibility screening and timing for assessment by DSQ, people who are eligible for this initiative will be referred to the assessment service for an independent assessment.

To be considered for assistance under the YPIRAC initiative, a person must:

  • Be under 65 years of age;
  • Permanently reside in a residential aged care facility or be at risk of entering a residential aged care facility, and;
  • Meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Disability Services Queensland Eligibility Policy 2006.

Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee assistance under this initiative.
